A fusion of traditional and modern fabrics and techniques, showcasing the traditional Japanese Shibori method of dimensional fabric shaping. Shibori is a time-revered method of shaping fabrics into sculptural shapes, sometimes combined with dyeing techniques to create rich patterns.
Fusion takes Shibori to a unique, dark place, with silhouettes pulled from sources as diverse as Late Victorian gowns and modern Japanese Manga. Fabrics are rich mixtures of modern and traditional: satin and linen, fishnet and gabardine.
Fusion was created especially for Nocturna's Fifteenth Anniversary celebration in Chicago.
